For the past 8 years the Scholarship Committee has invited graduating high school student who are continuing their education in the arts to apply for a scholarship. The Scholarship Fund was created from the donation and support from the Town of Caledon Counsellors Annual Golf Tournament. This year, the Scholarship Committee chose 2 winners from numerous entries. Our two very worthy winners were announced at the Headwaters Arts Fall Festival Gala on Thursday Sept. 17. Both students were present to accept their awards.
For Music – Maya Mattar
Maya attended Erin District High School and had a keen interest in both science and music from an early age. She was active in her music courses and school bands, still takes piano lessons as well as was active in the Guelph Youth Dance Program.
She has been accepted at McMaster University in the Integrated Science Program where she will conduct research on the benefits of music to the brain to aid patients with neurological disorders.
For Literature – Katie Kanters
Katie attended Orangeville District Secondary School and has always had a passion for reading and writing. Outside of school courses Katie has attended writer’s workshops to further her craft in writing. Katie is enrolled at Queens University as an English Major in their Concurrent Education Program and upon completion plans on returning to Dufferin County as a high school English teacher teaching creative writing and English literature.
