Our Current Show: LAND, SEA and SKY

Headwaters Arts fourth members show of the year asked artists to explore what emotions one experiences from the land, the sea and/or sky and capture that subject with full-on energy/emotion in their chosen medium. The result, 28 artists produced 40 powerful and unique works of art in a variety of 2-D and 3-D mediums including: oil, acrylic, watercolour, paper sculpture, clay, mixed media, textile, fibre, photography and painted stone/rock.
Both established, mid-career and emerging artists shared their personal and dynamic connections and interpretations to the land, sea and/or sky with these statements:
“My piece “Rise Up” captures the mystery of the Newfoundland mists. When I experienced this phenomena, it seemed as if the cove was being sucked up into the heavens. As I watched from land, the water was rising up to join the sky. It was incredibly beautiful.” Deb Menken, Mono.
“My work is a dialogue between the natural world and the tactile language of textiles. Through techniques like rug hooking and wet felting, I aim to not only echo natural paint palette but also engage with sustainable practices that honour the earth. The slow process of working with textiles mirrors the cycles of growth, decay, and renewal that are constantly unfolding around us.” Leslie Knight.
Meet the artists at the Opening Reception to be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Headwaters Arts Gallery in the Alton Mill Arts Centre, Alton, Ontario.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather, and on which the Region of Peel operates, is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land. In particular we acknowledge the territory of the Ani-shinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit.
We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land, and by doing so, give our respect to its first inhabitants.
