Arts in the Annex

Check out this page for events that are happening in our outdoor tented space!

The “Annex” is a restored structure located on the grounds of the Alton Mill Art Centre. Historically it was the building used to store wool when the Art Centre was used as a knitting mill. With funds received from the Ontario Trillium Fund, we were able to purchase and install a tented roof over the Annex making it the perfect place to host outdoor events such as concerts, art shows, markets, weddings, etc!

Tapestry of Art and Music 2025

Tapestry of Art and Music is a fundraising event that features an art show & sale with a music performance by the Oakville Choir for Children and Youth. Our goal is to reach 100 artists within the region and beyond who will register, and receive at no charge,  a 6″ X 6″ X 1.5″ canvas to create a visual masterpiece. Each piece will be donated by the artist and displayed as one large tapestry of work. All art will be for sale at one price, and we want to sell every piece! This is not a juried show, works will be selected by the event committee based on criteria that ensures a diverse display of art.

Headwaters Arts invites artists to register for a free 6 x 6 x 1.5” blank canvas to create an artwork that captures the connection between art and music—igniting the creative soul. This year’s theme, “Wonder and Whimsy” encourages artists to embrace a sense of youthful playfulness through expressive strokes, bold colors, and vibrant energy.

Here’s some inspiration to get the creative wheels turning! Artists are welcome to interpret these freely or bring their own inspiration to the theme.

  1. Favourite Childhood Memory – A moment of joy, discovery, or wonder from your younger years.
  2. Soundtrack of Your Youth – A piece inspired by a song, artist, or musical moment that shaped you.
  3. Dream Worlds – Explore your creative imagination.
  4. Colours of Play – Be bold and playful with textures, hues, strokes and ideas.

We provide the canvas, and you create/paint and donate your Masterpiece! No entry fee.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather, and on which the Region of Peel operates, is part of the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples inhabited and cared for this land. In particular we acknowledge the territory of the Ani-shinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Ojibway/Chippewa peoples; the land that is home to the Metis; and most recently, the territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation who are direct descendants of the Mississaugas of the Credit.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land, and by doing so, give our respect to its first inhabitants.
